The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. The Wall That Heals and Mobile Education Center spread the healing legacy of The Wall and educates about the impact of the Vietnam War.
It all begins with the Escort. Under the leadership of the Legion Riders, American Legion Post #3, Hilo, HI, The Wall That Heals will be escorted from the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, around the city of Hilo, and then on to Russell Caroll Mo’oheau Park. If you would like to Volunteer as an Escort Rider, please sign-up here.
Beginning at 8:00 AM, Volunteers will begin assembling The Wall That Heals. If you have a family member or friend whose name is on the The Wall, you have the honor to escort the panel containing that name as the panel is placed on The Wall. Please sign up here.
At 6:00 PM, All Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend Volunteer Orientation Training at the site. Training will last approximately one hour
The Wall will be available for viewing immediately following the Volunteer Orientation. Volunteer shifts will also start immediately following Volunteer Orientation.
After a brief opening ceremony, The Wall That Heals, along with the Mobile Education Center, will be on display. Please sign-up for age-appropriate Tours here.
Tours of The Wall That Heals will begin at 10:00 AM following the Opening Ceremony
The Wall That Heals will be on display 24 hours per day. The Mobile Education Center will be open from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
On Saturday, January 27, at 11:00 AM, a ceremony will take place honoring those Vietnam Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country. The ceremony will last approximately one hour.
The Hawaii County Band will play a 60’s Rock N Roll Tribute to the Vietnam Era starting at 10:30 AM
After a brief closing ceremony, Volunteers will disassemble The Wall That Heals and prepare the display for shipment. Please sign up here.
Once disassembled and placed in the trailer, The Wall That Heals will be shipped to its next display site: Kahului, Maui, February 7 - 13, 2024.
